Apply

1Password is seeking an Intermediate Developer on the Everyday Experience team. Everyday Experience owns the surfaces and workflows that shape how customers use 1Password day to day, with a focus on reliability, usability, and trust across core product experiences.

The team’s work sits at the intersection of product quality, cross-platform foundations, and customer-facing execution, making it a critical partner for company-priority initiatives.

  • Location: Remote within Canada and the US (working from the home country is required).
  • Posting Status: Existing vacancy.

How AI Is Used Today

1Password's Engineering, Product, and Design teams integrate AI across the software and product development lifecycle:

  • Engineers use AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate reviews and catch bugs earlier.
  • Product managers synthesize user research at scale.
  • Designers prototype and iterate with AI-generated mockups.
  • AI adoption follows clear principles, human accountability at consequential decision points, and evaluation before shipping to customers.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Experienced developer with strong Rust knowledge.
  • Ability to own complex systems work end-to-end, from design through delivery and production support.
  • Comfortable working across product surfaces, backend services, CI/CD, reliability, and operational workflows.
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to make pragmatic tradeoffs across quality, speed, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Ability to ramp into complex codebases and ambiguous problem spaces quickly.
  • Collaborative across teams, including Product, Design, Security, Browser, Backend, and Infrastructure.
  • Effective at using AI tooling to accelerate development, testing, debugging, documentation, and code exploration.
  • Brings the expertise needed to validate, review, and safely apply AI-assisted work in production systems.

Bonus Points:

  • Strong experience building backend services in Go.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS).

Role Responsibilities

  • Acquire and maintain a solid understanding of the development toolchain and use it to contribute new features, improvements, and bug fixes across team codebases.
  • Participate in the complete lifecycle of a feature: contribute to planning, execution of development, release oversight, and customer support.
  • Ensure code is high quality and maintainable by developing testing strategies, writing unit and integration tests for new and existing code, documenting work thoroughly, and reporting issues effectively.
  • Plan solutions ahead of writing code, recognize and reuse existing patterns and best practices (development, security, quality), and submit well-documented merge requests.
  • Participate in and review documented proposals (RFCs/RFDs), promote best practices in code reviews, and provide thoughtful peer feedback.
  • Empower the customer support team to support products, address issues driving support inflows, and help determine high-priority customer feedback.
  • Actively participate in team organization: refinement, prioritization, and group estimation.
  • Identify improvement opportunities in repository cleanup, community engagement tooling, or IDE integration ergonomics.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary:

  • USA-based roles: $123,000 USD – $172,000 USD per year.
  • Canada-based roles: $111,000 CAD – $155,000 CAD per year.
  • Compensation is approached with fair market value and internal equity commensurate with experience and specific skill set.

Benefits Program:

  • Health & Wellbeing: Health and dental benefits, generous paid time off (PTO), maternity and parental leave top-up programs.
  • Retirement & Equity: 401(k) (US) / RRSP (Canada) matching program, RSU equity grant for most employees, incentive programs where applicable.
  • Perks & Community: Free 1Password account, paid volunteer days, peer-to-peer recognition through Bonusly, remote-first work environment.

Remote Work & Travel Policy

1Password is a remote-first company founded remotely in 2005. Remote employees must work from their home country. Travel for in-person engagement is required across roles, including annual department-wide offsites, team meetings, and customer/industry events.

Application, AI & Background Check Policies

  • Interviews: Candidates are asked to join live interviews without using AI tools.
  • AI Screening Notice: 1Password uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies (natural language processing and predictive analytics) to assist in the initial screening of employment applications. Candidates may opt out via an available opt-out form.
  • Background Check: Successful applicants are required to complete a background check, which may include prior employment verification, reference checks, education confirmation, criminal background, publicly available social media, credit history, or other information as permitted by local law.
  • Equal Opportunity & Accommodations: 1Password is an equal opportunity employer.
