Rust Engineer

About the Role What if your deep expertise in Rust could directly shape how AI writes and reasons about systems-level code? We're looking for experienced Rust engineers to review, evaluate, and improve AI-generated Rust code — helping ensure the next generation of AI understands memory safety, concurrency, and performance at an expert level.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for senior Rust developers who want meaningful, intellectually engaging work on their own schedule.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate AI-generated Rust code for correctness, memory safety, concurrency, and performance
  • Design, build, and optimize high-performance systems in Rust to support AI evaluation workflows
  • Develop backend services and tooling for large-scale data validation and quality control
  • Identify bottlenecks, edge cases, and system-level failure modes — and implement scalable fixes
  • Provide structured, expert feedback on AI outputs across a range of systems programming challenges
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional experience writing production-grade Rust with a focus on memory safety and concurrency
  • Strong background in systems programming and performance optimization
  • Able to spot subtle bugs, unsafe patterns, and inefficient designs that AI might miss
  • Fluent in English with the ability to explain complex low-level programming concepts clearly and precisely
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Self-motivated and consistent when working independently

Nice to Have

  • Experience with distributed systems architecture or developer tooling
  • Familiarity with AI code generation tools or evaluation workflows
  • Background in embedded systems, OS development, or compiler engineering
  • Prior experience in technical writing, code review, or mentoring

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, technically rigorous work
  • Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI understands and generates systems-level code
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
  • Training and onboarding support provided — hit the ground running
