We build high-performance interceptor aircraft designed to pursue fast-moving targets. Their performance depends on a flight-control platform that can process sensor data, make decisions, and drive actuators with extremely low and predictable latency.
At the center of this platform is our STM32-based autopilot. It connects sensors, communications, and actuators with flight-control and navigation software, and it must remain reliable when timing margins are small, resources are constrained, and the aircraft is operating dynamically.
Rust is the foundation of this role. You will design and maintain production-grade no_std firmware, shape the embedded software architecture, and work closely with flight control, navigation, and robotics engineers to turn demanding real-time requirements into efficient, robust code.
What is your Day to Day Mission:
Design and maintain the embedded Rust architecture for our STM32 autopilot and write production-grade no_std firmware.
Implement and maintain drivers for SPI, I2C, UART, ARINC 825, USB, Ethernet, DShot, ADC and other peripherals.
Build reliable asynchronous and real-time components using interrupts, DMA, timers and carefully designed concurrency.
Measure end-to-end latency from peripheral input through flight-critical tasks to actuator output, and eliminate jitter and bottlenecks.
Profile and optimize hot paths for CPU cycles, memory footprint, data movement and deterministic deadline compliance.
Use Rust's type system, ownership model and zero-cost abstractions to improve correctness without sacrificing performance.
Debug firmware and electronics at register and signal level using probe-rs, hardware probes, schematics and reference manuals.
Integrate flight-control and navigation algorithms and validate timing, fault handling and performance on hardware and in flight.
What you bring to the team:
This is first and foremost a Rust and low-level performance engineering role. Deep, hands-on Rust experience and the ability to write clear, efficient and predictable systems code matter more than previous UAV experience.
We care about measurable behavior. Code should be profiled on the target, latency budgets should be understood, and architectural choices should be supported by data. You should be comfortable moving between high-level Rust design and register-level debugging.
Excellent Rust skills, including ownership, lifetimes, traits, generics, error handling and zero-cost abstractions.
Hands-on embedded or no_std Rust with embedded-hal, Embassy or RTIC, probe-rs, cargo-embed and cargo-flash.
Experience developing firmware for STM32 or comparable ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
Deep understanding of memory-mapped peripherals, interrupts, DMA, timers, scheduling and MCU concurrency.
A strong performance mindset covering latency, jitter, worst-case execution time, CPU load and memory use.
Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN/CAN-FD and low-level debugging across firmware and electronics.
Understanding of embedded reliability, fault tolerance and safety-critical principles, plus strong Git workflows.
Experience with UAVs, drones, robotics or flight controllers such as PX4, ArduPilot or Betaflight is useful but not required. Familiarity with MAVLink or functional safety is also welcome.
Why Quantum-Systems:
We believe in the power of combined efforts: straightforward tech expertise paired with a customer-centric focus.
We are industry pioneers who are ambitious, bold, and visionary.
We push limits, think outside-the-box and strive for technological excellence to shape the future of aerial data.
We promise to be your runway for individual and professional growth.
Our benefits:
Company pension scheme: We support you so that you can already make provisions for later.
Flexible working hours: With trust-based working hours, you are not only responsible for your working hours, but also for your work-life balance.
Mobile Work: If things get a little busy in the office, you have the option to work remotely one flexible day per week to create the right balance.
Stay active: With EGYM Wellpass, you get access to thousands of fitness and sports facilities — and of course, we subsidize the membership.
